The photo above shows a V-twin motorcycle engine mounted on the plane.  One source indicates this was a 17 hp Indian Chief engine.  The same source indicates the 28 hp Lawrance engine powered the second airplane.

Note that the specifications for the plane are very close to the modern specifications for ultralight aircraft.
