1985 VF1100C V65 Magna (c) 1998 David B. Hill1985 Honda VF1100C, the V65 Magna.  My favorite bike.  Ever.  1100 cc's of smooth V-4 power that with a flick of the wrist gives you that "freight train with rocket assist" feeling.

I have not done a lot to this bike in terms of modifications.  The seat is a touring seat from Mustang (the cushion on the back rest, too).  More comfortable for those long, long rides (1000 miles at a stretch), and an inch or two lower seat height to accommodate my 30" inseam.

The fairing is the "Nightflight" model from Rifle, just big enough to keep the bulk of the wind off my chest, reducing the fatigue factor, but not so big that it's like hanging a sail off the front of your bike.  And it looks great too!

I have been running Dunlop K591 tires ever since I got the bike (1992).  It's time for new tires and I may give Metzelers a try (ME33 front, ME99A rear).

May 1998 - Scratch the Metzlers, I went with Dunlop D205 radials, 110/80ZR18 on the front and 150/80ZR16 on the rear.  Much better handling than the K591s, but I have not put enough miles on them to know if it's just "new tire syndrome" or if they really handle better.  Gotta get in some twisties to find out.

June 1998 - There is no doubt whatsoever.  The D205s have made this a completely different bike.  They are solid on the highway (no low or mid-speed wobble) and take the bike around corners like it's on rails.

HillThis is my bike loaded up for travel.  I took this photo at the overlook on US 129 just north of Deal's Gap on 2000/08/13.  I was on my way home from Colorado.  On the trip out I earned my SaddleSore 1000 certificate on 2000/08/05 and BunBurner 1500 certificate on 2000/08/06 from the Iron Butt Association.  On the way back, only moments after this photo was made, I failed to negotiate a turn on "The Dragon" and bent a few parts on my bike.  It wasn't too bad; I rode it the rest of the way home, slowly.

Beware the Dragon!.  It will bite the weary and unwary traveller.
